Side Event 1
Capacity Building in Support of Young Refugees in Major Cities(Social Inclusion by Education, Entrepreneurship, Employment and Innovation)
Dolmabahçe Room, 24 May 2016, 13:00-14:00.
Noting that urban centres are gradually growing into a location of refuge for displaced people and refugees, this side event will have a panel discussion on the role of actors in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Education and Employment in supporting the capacity building of young refugees in major cities. The critical analysis will seek solution on how we, as major cities, can create social inclusion through these mechanisms, and how we could benefit from this information to apply in our own countries with suggestions and create a mutual understanding of how to communicate these initiatives within our own cities.
Additionally, there will be a report launch of the research conducted on the situation of 350 Syrian youth refugees in Istanbul. The results of the research conducted on refugee youths and adolescents, and focuses on the struggles they face and the possible support mechanisms, will act as a base, guiding the flow of the panel discussions. The results of this research are aimed at shaping our understanding about the opportunities and obstacles the young refugees in major Metropolitan cities come across.
The additional highlight of this side event will be signing of a MoU between UN Habitat, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Industry to support young Syrian refugees.

Consultation on the Progress Study on for youth, Peace and Security

This side-event aims at gathering the views and priorities of young women and men, including Syrian youth find refugee in Turkey, directly affected by conflict and disasters on how young people contribute positively to conflict prevention, resolution and peace building, seizing the opportunity of the unique gathering of young
people living and working in humanitarian settings during the World Humanitarian Summit. The key document within this discussion will be the Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security.
The main partners within this event will be UNFPA, PBSO, Istanbul MM Youth Council, Office of the Envoy of the Secretary-General on Youth, UNOY Peacebuilders, Major Group on Children and Youth, UNHCR and
Side Event 3
Young Women: Actors and Victims of the Humanitarian Crisis

This side-event aims at gathering the views and experiences of women working within the humanitarian field – and how there could be a positive contribution to the gender specific needs of young women working for women within the humanitarian field. This side event gives the opportunity of young humanitarian actors to discuss actions, which could be taken within their home country in lobbying for gender mainstreaming for humanitarian work.
